The Villa Park outfit paid €9.5m to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade for the young full-back in the winter window of 2024 and he arrived at the club highly rated.

Unai Emery gave him a chance in the earlier parts of the last season, but quickly he fell down the pecking order.

In the winter window, he was loaned out to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig for the rest of the campaign with an option to buy.

Die Roten Bullen have an option worth €10.5m to make Nedeljkovic’s stay at the club permanent and they like the player very much as well.

However, Leipzig missed out on qualifying for next season’s Champions League, and that lack of Champions League participation money has made them take time before they make a decision.

According to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, Leipzig could still sign the Aston Villa loanee.

The Bundesliga side do not have a coach in place as they have been looking to appoint someone going forward and the new coach will have a big say in what happens.

Banking a substantial fee for the Serbian could come in handy for Aston Villa after they missed out on the Champions League.

They have the likes of Andres Garcia and Matty Cash as full-back options, and if Nedeljkovic comes back to the club, he will not find it easy to have game time.

Emery’s side will be keeping an eye on the managerial situation at the German club to see what they decide regarding their loanee.

The German top-flight side have until later this month to exercise the buy option for the Serbian.
