Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto scored his first Serie A goal this season in last night’s remarkable 6-0 victory at Lazio.
Speaking to Rai Sport after the game via FCInterNews, the Brazilian defender addressed his first-team status at Giuseppe Meazza.
Carlos Augusto joined Inter from Monza on a season-long loan in 2023 before signing a permanent contract the following summer.
However, his first-team opportunities under Simone Inzaghi have been at a premium.
That doesn’t take anything away from the 25-year-old’s qualities.
On the contrary, he’d likely be a regular starter at any other club.
Unfortunately for Augusto, Inzaghi has Federico Dimarco at his disposal.
Indeed, the 27-year-old Italian is arguably one of the top wingbacks in European football right now.
Dimarco and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez have long gone toe-to-toe in this race.
But the Frenchman’s epic downfall this season has allowed the Nerazzurri stalwart to pull ahead.
Augusto was one of Inter’s six scorers at the Stadio Olimpico.
“Would I be a starter in many teams in Italy and Europe? Beyond that, the important thing is that we achieved a great win,” he stated.
“I’m happy about the goal. Last year, I wanted to have more minutes in the league, but what’s important is that we’re all happy.
“We approached the game well, and the most important thing is that Inter always wins.
“We knew the strength of Lazio, so the start of the game was tough. After going up 1-0, we controlled the match, and then our qualities came through.”
Augusto also offered his support to underperforming Inter skipper Lautaro Martinez.
“That’s football,” he maintained. “I also suffered from an injury. He’s our captain, and he’s done great things here over the years.
“We have complete confidence that he’ll break his dry spell.”
