Manchester United have suffered back to back defeats in the Premier League after they lost 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday away from home.
The Red Devils are missing a host of key players, and they were rocked by the injury to Amad Diallo, who could now miss the rest of the season.
United did create some fantastic chances against Spurs, but their poor finishing proved to be costly in the end.
Alejandro Garnacho missed a few gilt-edged chances, while Rasmus Hojlund faded away after a bright start. One player who was outstanding during the game was Joshua Zirkzee, and the UK press was full of praise for him.
The Daily Mail hailed him as the “best player” for United, and gave him a 7/10 rating. He should have scored with a late header.
The newspaper wrote: “Best player in a United shirt on the day, even with his late headed miss that really should have gone in.
“Zirkzee showed flashes of his skill and was positive when he got the ball all afternoon. But the fall-out of him staying so central meant that he did not pick up enough defensive responsibility, adding to the workloads of the likes of Fernandes and Casemiro.”
With Diallo out injured, players like Zirkzee needs to step up and produce goals for the club. He has made a slow start to his career at United, and needs to do more to justify his massive price tag.
The Netherlands striker has made nine starts in the Premier League and a further 16 appearances have come from the bench. He has scored only three goals in the league.
The performance has been encouraging, but Ruben Amorim will demand more goals from him. With this defeat, the Red Devils have dropped to 15th in the league table, 12 points above the relegation zone.
