Former Premier League standout Wilfried Zaha could be on the move to Major League Soccer this January, thanks to a unique loophole.
According to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, the 32-year-old attacker is looking to kickstart his career and "a number" of American clubs are seriously interested.
Zaha is currently playing for Lyon in Ligue 1 after being sent to France on loan by parent club Galatasaray. However, his mere six appearances so far have pushdc him to look for another club change.
According to FIFA regulations, players are "only permitted to play for two clubs during the relevant campaign." The exception to the rule is "a player moving between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (i.e. start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring) may be eligible to play in official matches for a third club during the relevant season."
Given that the MLS season begins in February, Zaha can switch to the United States. Galatasaray are said to "not stand in the way" of the potential move "provided a deal can be agreed over his £3.75 million annual salary."
The former Crystal Palace and Manchester United star thrived in the top flight in England before moving to Turkey. He registered 68 goals and 29 assists in 305 appearances in the Premier League, meaning he would bring veteran experience to any MLS club should a deal arrive.
