Moratti on Inzaghi at Inter: ‘In certain moments, I’d have sacked him’ | OneFootball

Massimo Moratti weighed in on the ‘priceless’ nature of the second Scudetto star at Inter and suggested he’d ‘have sacked’ Simone Inzaghi at certain moments.

The Nerazzurri were a cut above their rivals in Serie A this term, flying to the league title after shaking off title challenges from Milan and Juventus, allowing them to secure a historic 20th Scudetto, earning them the second star.

Inter have now started building towards the 2024-25 season, where they’ll compete in the revamped Club World Cup as well as Serie A and the Champions League, setting up a long and tough campaign for Inzaghi and his squad.

Speaking to La Repubblica via FcInterNews, Moratti first discussed what it means for Inter to win their 20th league title.

“Sewing the second star on the pitch against Milan to your chest, for an Inter fan, was priceless. Unimaginable and unexpected, but at the same time very deserved.

“There was a celebration in the city after the match against Torino. There were really a lot of fans. I’m still amazed at how football can move people.”

He spoke highly of Inzaghi and joked about how things could’ve gone had he been in charge.

“He has qualities that are his alone. He has patience, attention, intelligence, the right amount of meticulousness and the ability to improve himself.

“I have appreciated him over time. In certain moments, if I made a mistake, I would have sacked him. It’s a criticism I make of myself, not of him.”

The former Inter president commented on the next objectives for Inzaghi and Inter.

“Winning the title again is very important. There are no positional gains, you always have to put in effort and seriousness because it only takes a moment to lose what you have built. The Champions League is certainly more complicated to plan for, but never say never.”

Finally, Moratti discussed his recent return to the Inter training ground.

“It was a wonderful day, completely dedicated to me, for which I will always be grateful. The sports centre has changed, but the feelings are those of the past. There is the history of my family there.

“Before my father, Inter trained near the Forlanini park. My family’s bond with the club remains thanks to Inter Campus, a wonderful project that my daughter Carlotta follows.”
