For the first time since the 2018/19 season, AS Monaco will compete in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. In a season of highs and lows, the Principality club booked their ticket thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Montpellier HSC on Sunday, which guarantees their position as vice-champions in Ligue 1 this season.

Speaking in the mixed zone post-match, Thiago Scuro reflected on his first season with Monaco and the achievement of bringing the club back to the pinnacle of the European game.

How do you reflect on this Champions League qualification?

“It was a tough season. Lots of good and not-so-good moments. We had our challenges throughout the season. It’s great to be here with the second place confirmed. It has been a while since Monaco have shown this consistency in the league. I think Adi Hütter has done a great job leading this group of players. We showed our quality. We used lots of players this season: experienced players, a lot young players and players from the academy. They all had an impact on the pitch. We are happy to write another chapter in the club’s history.”

Owner Dmitry Rybolovlev was in the dressing room post-match, what were his comments?

“Félicitations! He congratulated the group and said that he was very happy. He shared a message about the importance of Monaco being in the Champions League. He has been an important person in the decision-making this season. The success also belongs to the President directly too and it only right that he was here to celebrate with us.”

What is your best memory of your debut season at Monaco?

“My best memory of the season was the press conference during which I was presented. It was a very special day for me. Being the sporting director of AS Monaco is a special achievement. I would also say the win away against OGC Nice was a very special night and probably represents a turning point for this group. After this match, we showed how strong we are. It made us stronger for the following games too.”
