Since Sergio Conceicao arrived, Samuel Chukwueze has not had an opportunity to show his talent to the new head coach. However, he returned to group training for AC Milan today.

Chukwuze’s position within the Milan squad is a difficult one to analyse. The Nigerian first arrived under the premise of being a player to take the front line forward. A young, exciting winger with a lot of promise, but it has not played out that way.

Instead, the other winger signed in that summer – Christian Pulisic – excelled and Chukwueze has been playing catch-up since then. Under Stefano Pioli and Paulo Fonseca’s management, he was given cameos, alongside the occasional start. However, chances were few and far between.

There has been talk about a departure for much of the season, and with the winger getting injured in Fonseca’s last game in charge, it has made an exit difficult. The other big reason for this is that Conceicao has yet to see him play.

However, this could change this weekend. Milan News reports that the winger has been back in group training ahead of this weekend’s fixture. However, Christian Pulisic is ready to start once again, so the American will likely be handed the start.

Elsewhere, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Malick Thiaw have trained separately at Milanello, but both are expected back soon.
