Milan have been focusing on the midfield early but plan to sign a highly-rated striker despite spending nearly €30M for Santiago Gimenez in January. They have several top-notch names on their radar, although they are all difficult targets, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The Rossoneri are keeping tabs on Viktor Gyokeres, but he’s waiting for Arsenal and the Premier League in general. He has manageable wages, but Sporting CP want more than €60/65M. Mateo Retegui wouldn’t be a lot cheaper, but he’s more attainable. Atalanta demand around €50M.

Milan were linked to Darwin Nunez, but Napoli are leading the race, and he’s extremely pricey. The talks with Dusan Vlahovic didn’t last. He wants to maintain his €12M salary and actually intends to stay at Juventus, despite the club’s blatant attempts to push him out.

The list of alternatives comprises PSG’s Gonçalo Ramos, Porto’s Samu Aghehowa, Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy, but they’d all command a fat cheque. The possible cheaper fallback plans are Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth, Benfica’s Vaggelis Pavlidis, Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha, Rasmus Hojlund, Stuttgart’s Ermedin Demirovic and Deniz Undav, PSV’s Ricardo Pepi, Lorenzo Lucca, and Artem Dovbyk.

They are never a good bet to spend more than €30M for any acquisition, plus they don’t hand out massive salaries, which takes them out of the running for a lot of players. They’ll need another man because Tammy Abraham, Luka Jovic, and Francesco Camarda all left. However, they should trust and test out Santiago Gimenez for a while longer, as he joined for a substantial fee and in the midst of a very confusing season, before signing somebody who would overshadow him.
