Reports in Italy claim that Milan are still hoping to appoint Tony D’Amico as the club’s new sporting director, despite Atalanta’s reluctance to let him leave, and the latest updates claim that Maurizio Sarri will become the leading candidate to become the next Rossoneri head coach if the Dea director is appointed.

D’Amico still Milan’s preferred option for sporting director role

Milan are still on the lookout for a new sporting director and a new head coach to replace Sergio Conceicao for the 2025-26 season.

The Rossoneri had found an agreement with former Juventus and Tottenham executive Fabio Paratici in April, but he was later dropped due to legal complications.

There have also been a series of meetings with former Lazio director Igli Tare, who has also been dubbed the frontrunner to take charge in San Siro over the last few weeks.

However, more recent reports claim that Atalanta’s D’Amico is now Milan’s preferred option to take over as sporting director.

La Dea, meanwhile, are reluctant to let him leave given that he is still under contract. CEO Luca Percassi has recently declared: “I have great trust in him, and he’s happy to stay.”

However, Corriere della Sera, via Milannews.it, claims that things are ‘far from over’ between Milan, Atalanta and D’Amico. Thursday’s reports suggest that there is no reason why an economic arrangement can’t be found between the two clubs at the end of the season.

Thursday’s update also adds that if D’Amico were to be appointed as the new Rossoneri sporting director, than the chances of Maurizio Sarri being appointed as head coach would increase as well.
