Reports in Italy claim that Milan are ready to submit an improved offer for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as early as Wednesday night, having had an initial bid for the Mexico international turned down last week.

The Rossoneri have been targeting a move for the 23-year-old centre-forward, who netted a brace against Bayern Munich last time out in the Champions League, and had an offer just shy of the €30m mark turned down earlier in the January transfer window.

They had also submitted a bid on the final day of the summer transfer window as well, Gimenez himself revealed in a recent interview.

Reports from Calciomercato.com claim that Milan are ready to come back in with a new offer for Gimenez on Wednesday night as long as the team finishes in the top eight upon the conclusion of the Champions League league phase this evening.

Wednesday’s report claims that Milan are prepared to offer a total package in the region of €35m, if not slightly higher, which comes close to matching Feyenoord’s €40m valuation.

Calciomercato also claims there is an informal agreement over a three-year contract worth around €2.5m per season in wages. The latest update also claims that Gimenez has a sort of gentlemen’s agreement with Feyenoord to allow him to join a ‘big’ European side if an appropriate offer comes in.

Milan reportedly want the deal to be wrapped up by the end of the week, with the aim of having Gimenez available in the squad to face Inter in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday.

Though he is a Mexico international, Gimenez would not take up a valuable non-EU slot in the Rossoneri squad, as he also has an Italian passport.
