Igli Tare will be announced as Milan’s new sporting director today, but the ex-striker is already facing an uphill battle to hire a new coach.

A new Milan era begins today as the Rossoneri are expected to announce Tare as their new sporting director after the ex-Albania international signed his contract with the club last week.

The first task will be to identify and hire a new coach for 2025-26, but as Gazzetta reported, Tare’s mission has already proven arduous.

Some of their leading candidates, in fact, seem to be moving towards different destinations.

Massimiliano Allegri is in advanced talks with Napoli, and Vincenzo Italiano is eager to stay at Bologna and will continue discussing a contract extension this week.

Maurizio Sarri was not on good terms with Tare at Lazio, so his appointment appears highly unlikely. Francesco Farioli is currently not among the candidates, and Roberto De Zerbi is set to remain at Marseille.

Thiago Motta has recently been linked with the job, and Gazzetta confirms the Rossoneri’s interest. According to the report, Roberto Mancini is also in the race as his past as an Inter coach is ‘not seen as an obstacle.’

To make things worse is the fact that Tare was already available a few months ago, but Milan waited until the end of the season to appoint him, giving time to their competitors, especially Napoli, to move for new coaches.
