United States captain Christian Pulisic may not be in the starting line-up when Milan and Juventus lock horns in a Serie A blockbuster later today. According to Calciomercato, the USMNT forward isn’t 100% fit after representing his country during November’s international break.
Pulisic played a pivotal role as Mauricio Pochettino’s side eased past Jamaica 5-2 on aggregate in their CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final tie. The Milan winger delivered a goal and assist, inspiring his team to a scintillating victory.
However, the congested fixture schedule might have taken its toll on Pulisic. The 26-year-old has barely missed a game for Milan this season. As Paulo Fonseca’s most prolific first-team star, he has started ten of Rossoneri’s 11 Serie A matches, tallying five goals and four assists.
Milan can’t envision life without Pulisic, but they may face Juventus without their talismanic ace if the medical staff doesn’t grant him clearance. Indeed, the Rossoneri doctors will closely monitor the situation in the coming hours.
If deemed unfit, Pulisic will shift to the bench, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek emerging as the likeliest candidate to fill the vacancy. The Englishman has lost his first-team status at Milan since Fonseca replaced Stefano Pioli in the dugout.
Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana have been Fonseca’s preferred midfield pairing. The former could move higher up the pitch against Juventus, allowing Loftus-Cheek to drop back. Either way, Milan are a different team without Pulisic.
