Milan have a window to negotiate with Massimiliano Allegri while Napoli and Inter wait for their coaches’ decisions and are fully taking advantage of it. The Rossoneri intensified the contacts on Wednesday, and the white smoke might be afoot, Calciomercato informs.
Their higher-ups always considered the former Juventus boss one of the top candidates to succeed Sergio Conceiçao. They quickly put pedal to the metal once Vincenzo Italiano reached an agreement on an extension to stay at Bologna. Thiago Motta would be the fallback if things didn’t go to plan.
Allegri doesn’t want to be in limbo past this week and would gladly accept the Milan proposal if he didn’t receive any message from Napoli. The Rossoneri are offering a less rich but longer contract compared to the Partenopei. The parties could meet in the middle between the first proposal and the request and agree on a two-year deal with an option with a €5M salary and add-ons, Gianluca Di Marzio informs.
The Tuscan gaffer would return to San Siro after 11 years. He spent time there from 2010 to January 2014, winning the Scudetto in 2011.
If they wrap up the talks quickly, it’d be the biggest sign yet that Antonio Conte isn’t leaving Napoli and that Simone Inzaghi won’t jump ship. The reservations about whether his style would really lift a squad that needs a lot of work to return to contention are legitimate, but their hierarchy needs to land a top-tier coach to amend their past mistakes. His resume is beyond reproach, and at least he’d stop the chaos that has engulfed them last season. Still, with so much uncertainty, teams are more in a hurry than coaches.
