FLW rounds up all the latest transfer gossip coming out of the Riverside Stadium.
Middlesbrough's January transfer window could be set to burst into life in the coming days, with news of potential arrivals and exits beginning to gather pace.
Boro have enjoyed a relatively quiet winter window so far, with no new signings arriving at the Riverside Stadium as of 15th January.
Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick will feel as though his squad is largely in a good place at this stage of the season, with his side firmly in play-off contention at the halfway point of the campaign.
However, Carrick and head of football Kieran Scott have proven themselves to be shrewd operators in the transfer market over recent years, and are always looking for ways to strengthen the playing squad so long as the player fits their philosophy.
So, with rumblings of imminent exits and potential arrivals on the horizon, Football League World rounds up all the latest transfer gossip coming out of Teesside.
Will he stay or will he go? That's been the question on every Middlesbrough fan's lips during the January transfer window so far when it comes to their prolific centre-forward Emmanuel Latte Lath.
The 26-year-old Ivorian international has long had his admirers in the Premier League, and so it came as a relative surprise to see the first official bid for Boro's number nine this month come from a league that isn't the English top-flight.
Instead, MLS side Atlanta United sent shockwaves across the pond when it was revealed on 12 January that they'd submitted a deal understood to be potentially worth up to £20m for the striker.
Middlesbrough are yet to issue a formal response to the bid, whilst they have been in preliminary discussions with a number of other clubs over a potential deal.
There have been murmurings over a potential Riverside return for Ryan Giles pretty much ever since his loan spell with Middlesbrough ended upon the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
The 24-year-old left-back was strongly linked with a return in the summer, but ultimately, that never materialised, and Boro ended up signing Neto Borges from Clermont Foot instead.
However, a report from Hull Live on 14 January revealed that Middlesbrough are once again plotting to sign the Hull City defender this month.
The report states that Carrick's interest in a reunion with his former loan star has never faded and that there is a "growing expectation at both clubs that Giles will now make a return".
Having joined on loan from Ipswich Town until the end of the season in the final hours of the summer transfer window, central defender George Edmundson has enjoyed a largely impressive season as a Middlesbrough player so far.
However, with his contract up at the end of the season at Portman Road, Boro have seemingly spotted an opportunity to secure the permanent signature of the no-nonsense defender this month, and have now tested Ipswich's resolve.
It was revealed on 14 January that the Tractor Boys have rejected a bid from Middlesbrough for Edmundson, which was reported to have been worth £350,000 up-front, with a further £350,000 if Boro were to win promotion as well as future add-ons.
It's understood that discussions between the two clubs are likely to continue, as the Teessiders push to keep him in the North East on a long-term basis before the window shuts.
One of the Championship's biggest transfer sagas so far this window, will Liverpool cash-in on Scottish international Ben Doak this month? Or will they rebuff any interest and keep him at the Riverside Stadium for the remainder of the season?
Premier League sides Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace have both lodged bids for the teenager earlier this month, whilst it's understood that Brentford and Fulham are also keeping tabs on the Liverpool starlet.
However, a new contender for his signature has emerged in the form of Bournemouth, and the Reds may have spotted an opportunity to use Doak as a way of snagging Cherries star Antoine Semenyo.
The Northern Echo revealed on 13 January that Bournemouth value Semenyo at around £50m, who are understood to hold an interest in signing Doak themselves. As such, it's been suggested that Liverpool could be willing to include the Scotsman in a package deal to land the Ghanaian international.
One piece of transfer business that Middlesbrough have completed recently was involving 2023 summer signing Sammy Silvera.
Boro recalled the 24-year-old from his loan spell with Portsmouth on 13 January, after he'd been enduring a rather torrid time at Fratton Park, with no goals or assists in 12 total appearances for John Mousinho's side.
Middlesbrough swiftly found the Australian new accomodation for the remainder of the season, however, as it was announced that he'd joined League One side Blackpool on loan.
Boro will now hope to see the forward receive more game time at Bloomfield Road, in the hope he can return to the Riverside in the summer as an improved talent who is ready for another crack at a starting role at the Riverside.
