Ben Chilwell will have a medical at Crystal Palace tomorrow ahead of a deadline day move to South East London, Mike McGrath is reporting exclusively in the Daily Telegraph.

The attacking full back has been frozen out by Chelsea since the summer, making one substitute appearance all season after failing to find a move in the summer.

Chelsea have finally agreed a deal, with Palace set to get the England defender until the summer with a great chance to help the team if he can quickly get up to speed after so long out.

The Telegraph also seem to think that former Leicester defender Chilwell could be used as a left sided centre-back in Oliver Glasner’s formation. Ironically, he would be replacing recalled Chelsea loanee Trevoh Chalobah in their regular starting lineup.

We’re delighted for Ben to have got this move. We’ve been over so many times how silly we think it is that the management haven’t been able to find a way to use him. Of course he’s not Maresca’s dream type of full back – but it still seems excessive not to have just used him in the cups anyway.

Instead they played Renato Veiga to juice up his value, and have now loaned him to Juventus.

It’s been tragically sad to such a much admired player and a Champions League winner with this club become a total ghost, ignored by club media as well as the manager for selection. Despite all that, Chilwell never kicked up a fuss, and his exceptional professionalism was noted by Enzo Maresca earlier this season.

Chilwell finally gets his move, and all parties will likely be hoping it works out so that a permanent move can be agreed in the summer.
