Scott McTominay reveals his favourite new nickname at Napoli after two goals sent them clear at the top of the Serie A table. ‘We’ve got to keep calm and go game by game.’

The midfielder is proving to be the face of what could be a Scudetto-winning campaign, as he has scored 11 goals this season, breaking Denis Law’s record of 10 for the most prolific Scottish player in a single Serie A season.

He found the net twice this evening, making it four goals in the last three games, beating Torino 2-0 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

McTominay relishing life at Napoli

The DAZN pitchside reporter listed the remarkable nicknames Napoli fans have come up with for McTominay, including McTerminator, MacGyver, the bottle opener (because he unblocks games) and the very Neapolitan McFratm.

“McFratm is the best one! Mazzocchi would say that one,” laughed McTominay.

This is because Fratm is Neapolitan dialect for ‘brother’ and is a term of endearment.

Having just arrived in Naples, does he realise what it would mean for this city to win their second Serie A title in three years, after waiting over three decades to celebrate again?

“It would mean the world, obviously the squad did it two years ago. We mustn’t get too high, as now we are leading the race, but we’ve got to keep calm, keep everything relaxed and go game by game. This game isn’t important unless we win the next and the one after that.

“So let’s stay calm and see where it gets us.”

Leonardo Spinazzola was also present for the DAZN post-match interview and was full of praise for McTominay.

“You can see the player he is, I can only say that he is a special guy, golden, always smiling and happy, an incredible worker. We are so lucky to have him,” said Spinazzola.

“From the first day, we’ve been working with incredible dedication. It’s only right to believe, to fight for this objective, because it has been such a long journey. We know how hard we worked to get here.”
