Matheus Cunha will complete a medical today as the 26-year-old forward finalises his £62.5 million move to Manchester United, according to a report.

Centre Devils reveals the Brazilian international is “undergoing” a medical as he “finalises” his switch to Old Trafford.

Once the tests have been run – a formality in any transfer – Cunha will sign a “five-year contract” with the paperwork “expected to be completed over the weekend,” the report states.

Cunha has emerged as United’s primary target this summer after an impressive season at Molineux which saw him win the club’s Player of the Year award.

The versatile forward scored 15 goals and provided six assists in the Premier League, often single-handedly carrying the Wolves attack with outrageous strikes from distance.

By comparison, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined for just seven goals between them, despite totalling over £100 million in transfer fees at Old Trafford in the last two summer windows.

Only four clubs have scored fewer times than Ruben Amorim’s side – Everton and the three relegated team, Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton – demonstrating just how poor the attack has been.

The need for reinforcements in the forward line is critical and United’s head coach is thought to have personally approved the pursuit of Cunha with widespread acceptance at the club that the Brazilian fits perfectly into Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Cunha’s release clause at Molineux – worth £62.5 million – made a deal for the forward expensive but simple to complete.

United will pay the total fee over two years in three separate payments, worth around £20.8 million each.

The Red Devils had tried to spread the release clause over five years, as this would help balance the club’s books more favourably, but Wolves rejected this request.

Cunha currently earns £120,000 a week at Molineux and this is set to jump to £200,000 a week once he completes his switch to Old Trafford, according to Centre Devils.
