Mason Greenwood prefers Marseille over Lazio | OneFootball

According to Foot Mercato, a preference has emerged in the race between Olympique de Marseille and Lazio for the signature of Mason Greenwood (22), with the Manchester United striker thought to prefer a move to the French side over their Italian rivals.

Santi Aouna writes that Lazio have had had an offer of €20 million rejected by Manchester United, who are thought to be holding out for €40 million on a player whose contract expires in 2025 (although ESPN have previously written that this could be closer to €23 million).

The Lazio president in a press conference held today appeared to admit defeat in his pursuit of the English striker, as he stated that there was a transfer target “ten times better than Mason Greenwood” in their sight.

Greenwood is available to purchase this summer because United are unwilling to re-integrate their academy product back into the squad after he was charged with attempted rape, assault, and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour. These charges were eventually dropped in 2023 after “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.” The player has denied all the allegations made against him.
