Leeds United fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on Saturday at Loftus Road.

The result means the Whites will go into the international break at the top of the table, but Sheffield United can go level on points if they win against Sheffield Wednesday in the derby clash on Sunday.

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes is convinced that the Whites will secure promotion to the Premier League as we enter the business end of the season.

Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion last season, but they are well equipped this term to get the job done after learning from past mistakes.

The Whites were nowhere near their best in the first half, but they showed enough fight back to secure a precious point.

Cifuentes said, as quoted by Leeds Live: “Leeds are a fantastic side. I hope they go up. It was not easy for them last season. I’m sure a lot of things went on in Daniel’s head at 2-0 down (today). I think they are a stronger side this season.”

Three horse promotion race

Leeds have dropped points in their past few games and allowed Sheffield United to close the gap at the top.

There’s still a long way to go, and Leeds should be able to handle the pressure now. Last season, they ran out of steam towards the closing stages, and Daniel Farke will ensure that is definitely not the case this time around.

Leeds have to secure the automatic promotion, even if it means finishing second behind the Blades. They cannot drop out of the top two, and for that, the Whites must continue to win games both home and away to put pressure on Sheff United and Burnley.

The Whites have suffered problems in the past at Loftus Road, and QPR seem to raise their levels whenever they face Leeds at home. But the Whites showed great mental fortitude to pick up a point after going two goals down.
