Marseille President Pablo Longoria has indicated that the French side will only sign Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa on one condition.

Longoria spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews. He addressed the Argentine’s future.

Correa joined Marseille from Inter last summer.

The 29-year-old former Lazio and Sevilla forward joined on an initial loan deal.

However, the loan contains a potential obligation for Marseille to sign Correa on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Qualification for the Champions League next season would trigger that option.

Marseille have no intention of signing Correa from Inter on a permanent basis.

The Argentine has not featured regularly for the Ligue 1 side this season. He has zero goals or assists in the league.

If anything, Correa’s form with Marseille has been even worse than it was at Inter.

The 29-year-old never really lived up to expectations across two seasons at the Nerazzurri.

So Marseille would undoubtedly be signing a player they don’t really want to if they do qualify for the Champions League.

Marseille President Makes Clear: Only One Condition To Sign Inter Forward Joaquin Correa

Marseille’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League via Ligue 1 are essentially nonexistent.

On the other hand, the Europa League would present a real avenue to earn a place in next season’s edition of Europe’s top club competition.

Marseille face Atalanta in the semifinals of the Europa League.

On the other side of the bracket are Bayer Leverkusen and Roma.

Therefore, Marseille have a genuine chance of qualifying for the Champions League via that route.

The club’s President confirmed that regarding Correa’s future, “The purchase option from Inter will become mandatory if we qualify for the Champions League.”

Otherwise, it would appear very likely that Correa will return to Inter this summer when his loan expires.
