Inter President Beppe Marotta feels Serie A is lucky to have a majority of foreign-owned clubs: ‘Otherwise, I don’t know where we would have ended up.’

The Nerazzurri President spoke during the event Costituzione e Sport in Milan on Monday.

“When we talk about the president of Inter, we are talking about a team with millions of supporters worldwide,” Marotta said via Calciomercato.com.

“Not everyone recognizes the social significance that Inter represents. We have a system of teams made up of both women and men, all of which have 700 registered members. We have a social responsibility towards them.

“In the past, there was the patronage model, with a great entrepreneur at the helm,” he continued.

“Today, 12 out of 20 Serie A clubs are foreign-owned, and luckily so. Otherwise, I don’t know where we would have ended up. This also reflects on all youth leagues, where many peripheral clubs, in particular, struggle to provide free access to football.”
