Inter President Beppe Marotta assured ‘football is a community’ after their Serie A match with Fiorentina was abandoned due to a medical emergency for Edoardo Bove.

The game was abandoned at the 17th minute after Bove collapsed with a medical emergency, where he was taken to hospital and has regained consciousness.

“Fiorentina directors Prade and Ferrari went to hospital, I spoke to Daniele just now,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“Football is a community, so naturally when these situations happen, all the players and the referee worked together to help and it was a spontaneous decision to abandon the game.

“Fiorentina will make a statement on the situation, but I just wanted to be here to express how close Inter and the whole football world is to Bove and his family right now.”

As per protocol, when the match is abandoned in Serie A then it resumes from where it was called off.

This means when the game is rescheduled, it will begin from the 17th minute with the result at 0-0.

Marotta was asked if the Lega Serie A had mentioned whether the other Serie A fixtures this weekend would be postponed, or potential rescheduling windows for this game to be played in future.

“We did not discuss that. A 22-year-old lad’s health is the only issue here, we need to hope he comes out of this well, but from tomorrow we can talk about the rest,” replied Marotta.

Messages have been coming in from all over the Italian football world showing support for Bove and wishing him a rapid recovery from this health scare.

The reports from the Careggi Hospital in Florence confirm that Bove was already breathing autonomously when in the ambulance and has regained consciousness.
