Despite the heartbreaking loss against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, it is clear to see that Ruben Amorim has got his players playing an attractive brand of football.
However, despite the on-field heroics, off-field issues continue to plague the team with Marcus Rashford’s interview with Henry Winter creating all the headlines in the past week.
Ruben Amorim took the bold decision to drop the Mancunian for the all-important Manchester derby and despite his absence, the team emerged triumphant.
Since that interview dropped, the Englishman has also been left out of the matchday squad for the tie against Spurs and is likely to miss the Bournemouth game as well, as alluded to by the head coach.
The Sun have now revealed that the dressing room has not taken too kindly to Rashford’s comments about leaving especially as it came after the team defeated Manchester City in stunning fashion.
The report also added that with Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba no longer at the football club, the 27-year-old does not have too many friends and this latest move seems to have alienated him further.
A source told the publication, “Some of the players are really annoyed at what Marcus said and why he chose to say it at that time.
“They were all buzzing after beating City and then he basically put in a transfer request after being dropped for one game. He’s not got many close friends in the squad anymore after the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard left.
“So he’s pretty quiet and doesn’t really act as a leader. More is expected of him but he doesn’t seem interested, despite having been in the first team for eight years.”
The United academy graduate does not have too many places to go if he does leave his boyhood club with not many clubs in a position to pay INEOS’ asking price as well as the player’s humongous £375,000 per week (as per capology).
So far the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have removed themselves from the running with the big clubs only capable of offering a loan exit, something that the Red Devils are unlikely to sanction.
Saudi Arabia remains a possibility but Rashford does not seem to be interested in a move to the Middle East just yet. A huge conundrum for the club to solve.
