Three-time Ballon d’Or winner Marco Van Basten did not take it easy on Devyne Rensch who is being linked with a move to Roma.
In light of the rumors suggesting Rensch wants out of Ajax in favor of a transfer to the Italian capital, Van Basten criticised the 21-year-old footballer in a recent appearance on ZiggoSport.
“I think he is easily replaceable. With all due respect, he is not a particularly good player,” opined the 60 year-old former striker.
“He has no footballing ability whatsoever. When he’s got the ball, he has no ideas—without the ball, he always makes mistakes. He makes one mistake per game.”
Adding, “He seems like a friendly guy, but for the level of Ajax he is not up to par.”
Van Basten’s comments come just one day after Ajax director Iex Kroes expressed apprehension regarding the right back’s potential exit before the end of the January transfer window.
“I think Devyne is a difficult player to replace,” admitted Kroes. “He’s a strong player—in short, we really want to keep him.”
