Marcel Hernández inspires Herediano past Real España

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with CS Herediano earning a 4-2 win against Real España in Group B on Wednesday at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San José, Costa Rica.
Marcel Hernández opened the scoring in the 25’, placing Herediano in front with a right-footed finish in front of goal to meet a cross from the left flank by Darril Araya.
Elías Aguilar extended the lead for the hosts in the 34’ with his own conversion from close range.
The Costa Rican side went up by three through a Wesly Decas own goal in the 66’.
Gustavo de Souza cut the deficit for the visitors in the 70’, striking a header off a corner kick service from Jhow Benavídez.
Jurguens Montenegro added a fourth for Herediano in the 75’, connecting inside the box on a cross out right by Marcel Hernández.
Gustavo collected his brace in the 90+2’, connecting with a header at the far post to meet a cross from Benavídez.
CS Herediano will return to play next Wednesday when it visits Cacique Diriangén FC of Nicaragua. Real España will return to CAC play on August 13 when it visits CSD Municipal of Guatemala.
