It has not been a happy summer for Newcastle, and Manchester United could be about to inflict further damage as per latest reports.
Initially, the Magpies had their eyes on Matheus Cunha, only for the Brazilian to head to Old Trafford. They subsequently shifted their focus to Bryan Mbeumo only for the same result to repeat itself.
Both Newcastle and the Red Devils were locked in talks with RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko.
The Peoples Person recently relayed that the Slovenian prefers the 20-time English league champions despite the offer of Champions League football at St James’ Park.
Following this latest snub, The Sun have reported that Eddie Howe’s side have once again moved on to a brand new target in the form of Nick Woltemade of VfB Stuttgart.
However, INEOS really like the 23-year-old and that has set-up another transfer clash between both clubs.
Bayern Munich were favourites for the German star, but following their acquisition of Luis Diaz, a move for the Germany international is not seen as likely.
That has opened the doors for both Premier League sides, and it will be interesting to see who wins this race.
“MANCHESTER UNITED and Newcastle are set to be locked in ANOTHER transfer battle to land Nick Woltemade as their next striker.
“Bayern Munich had been in pole position to sign Woltemade, 23, – who is valued at £40million.
“Howe has endured a difficult transfer window so far – having already seen deals for forwards Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike hijacked.”
Nick Woltemade enjoyed a breakthrough 24/25 season, scoring 17 goals while also registering three assists in his debut season for Stuttgart.
United are likely to pivot towards the former Werder Bremen ace if a move for either Sesko or Ollie Watkins fails to materialise. He can play in multiple positions across the frontline, a great asset to have.
For now, the Slovenian seems the preferred choice for INEOS, while Ruben Amorim wants the England international.
