Manchester United return to Europa League action tonight with their last-16 second-leg showdown against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford. With the tie delicately balanced after a 1-1 draw in Spain last week, Ruben Amorim faces key selection decisions as he seeks to guide his side into the quarter-finals.
The biggest positive for United ahead of this clash is the return of Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguayan has been back in training and is expected to feature, adding much-needed tenacity and control in midfield.

Mason Mount has also taken a step closer to a return, having trained on Wednesday, but this fixture is likely to come too soon for him. The former Chelsea midfielder continues his recovery from a frustrating spell on the sidelines.
United’s defensive line will require adjustments, with Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro both unavailable. Yoro’s absence, following an injury against Arsenal, leaves a vacancy in the backline that could be filled by January signing Ayden Heaven.
Patrick Dorgu is available despite serving a domestic suspension, and Amorim will likely deploy him in his preferred wing-back role. Lisandro Martínez, Jonny Evans, and Luke Shaw remain out, forcing further reshuffles in defence.

With injuries continuing to limit United’s squad depth, Amorim will rely on his established attacking core. Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Christian Eriksen should form the creative spine of the team, while Alejandro Garnacho will provide width. Joshua Zirkzee is expected to lead the line, tasked with unlocking Sociedad’s defence.
