Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Japanese striker Yuito Suzuki from Brondby IF.

Goals have not always come easily this season for Erik ten Hag’s men as they have only found the back of the net 55 times in the Premier League.

For context, Manchester City have scored 93, Arsenal 89 and Newcastle United 81. In fact, they are the joint worst goal scorers in the top ten with Brighton and Hove Albion.

This statistic has not been helped by the fact that young striker Rasmus Hojlund has had to do most of the heavy lifting in this campaign as Anthony Martial has spent the majority of his final season at the club on the treatment table.

Hojlund has impressed, scoring 15 goals despite a drought of service and boasts the impressive statistic of having a slightly more deadly shot conversion rate that that of Erling Haaland in the Premier League this year.

Nonetheless, United will clearly try and sign a striker this summer to ease the burden on the young Dane, but there is no real consensus yet on who the main target will be.

Names such as Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko have been mentioned but not with the intensity you would expect if there was concrete interest in a player.

Danish outlet Bold.dk claim that relatively unknown 22 year old Suzuki could be the answer to United’s problems.

Representatives from all of “Manchester United, Manchester City, Milan, Ajax, Espanyol, Tottenham and Stuttgart” have been keeping a close eye on the player’s performances as of late, the outlet says.

The Danish publication excitedly predicts that Brondby could fetch €25 million for the in-form striker as “the price could explode for Yuito Suzuki if he continues on the track we have seen this spring, where eight goals have made several big European clubs take a closer look at him.

“The offers can become so large that football director Carsten V. Jensen and the owners from Global Football Holdings find it difficult to say no, even though the plan has always been for the Japanese to stay in Brøndby for at least one more season.”

Suzuki is a versatile forward who “can be used both in an offensive position behind a striker and as a striker.”

He has played 30 times this season, scoring 11 goals and creating a further nine, demonstrating that he is much more than just a goalscorer.

The Japanese forward has been described as having “a good first touch and is able to closely control the ball without giving away possession. He is able to receive the ball in pressured situations and use his dribbling abilities to manoeuvre into good positions.”

A forward with technical ability and close control could suit United well as fans have been impressed by Amad Diallo’s increased confidence on the ball and how it added to the attack on Wednesday night.

However, a 22 year old forward who has only played one season in Denmark would very much be a project and would do little to ease the burden on Hojlund.

Suzuki could be an exciting talent to bring in but not at the cost of bringing in a more ready-made option to compete with United’s young Dane up front.
