Scott McTominay is playing a significant role in Manchester United’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The sale of the 27-year-old could fund the pursuit of the Uruguayan before the summer window closes.

The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell provided recent information, noting that Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna traveled to England for in-person talks about McTominay, and progress is being made on the deal.

Moreover, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Napoli are exploring the conditions for a potential deal involving Sofyan Amrabat, who is just one of their midfield options. They’re also considering McTominay, with Manchester United still holding out for a €30 million package.

Mail Sport reports that Napoli are keen on signing McTominay but only if they can secure him on loan with an obligation to buy. However, Manchester United would rather sell McTominay outright for £30 million this summer to help fund a move for Ugarte.

A decision is expected soon on how the Serie A club will strengthen their midfield. Even if Manchester United doesn’t end up selling McTominay, The Telegraph reported this week that PSG are optimistic that their offer to defer payment might tempt the Premier League side to go ahead with the Ugarte transfer.
