FC Barcelona boast one of the most talented squads in world football, with Hansi Flick having two to three quality options for most positions. Remarkably, much of this depth has come through La Masia, the club’s famed youth academy, rather than heavy spending in the transfer market.

One standout product of this system is Fermin Lopez. While not always a regular starter, the 22-year-old midfielder has emerged as a valuable asset off the bench and featured heavily during the decisive phase of last season. His energy, eye for goal, and versatility have made him a key rotational piece under Flick.

However, with Barcelona’s delicate financial situation, a major sale this summer may be inevitable. According to SPORT, Manchester United are prepared to submit an offer of over €70 million to sign Fermin Lopez. Such an amount could significantly ease the club’s financial challenges.

Ruben Amorim is keen to continue strengthening his squad before the transfer window closes. Fermin fits the profile the Manchester-based club is looking for, and the Red Devils are reportedly ready to offer a salary that would nearly double what the young midfielder earns at Barcelona.

The report also reveals that the English club’s interest in Fermin dates back to earlier discussions surrounding Marcus Rashford’s potential move to Barcelona, although the two operations have remained separate.

The proposal comes at a critical time for Barcelona. A sale of this magnitude would allow the club to fully comply with La Liga’s 1:1 rule, enabling them to register new signings, recent renewals, and potentially make an additional signing.

Internally, the idea of selling Fermin is being debated. Flick admires the midfielder, and he represents a model success story from La Masia. However, the club also recognizes the overcrowding in midfield and the historic financial opportunity such a transfer could present.

While Flick might prefer to offload other players instead, he is reportedly not opposed to letting Fermin go, but only for a very high fee. The Barça board, too, is aware that selling a homegrown player is unpopular, but views this as a rare chance to significantly strengthen the club’s economic footing.

Ultimately, the decision will come down to Fermin himself. He knows that competition in midfield is fierce and that he may not start regularly.

But he also knows that he earned Flick’s trust last season and was a regular feature in key matches. Whether he chooses to stay and fight for his place or accept a lucrative Premier League offer remains to be seen.

Fermin adds a very different dimension to the No. 10 role at Barcelona. He is very unique and could be the perfect rotation option to Dani Olmo. Losing him would be a blow for Barcelona from a sporting perspective, but it could solve their biggest problem off the pitch.
