It has been a disastrous season for Manchester United and they need a win and for other results to go their way on the final day of the Premier League season if they are to qualify for the third tier of continental club football in Europe.

The disastrous displays are partly due to the perennial injury crisis that has plagued the team throughout the campaign and the manager’s flawed choice of tactics.

This high-energy transition poker that the Dutchman wants his team to play has not suited last season’s go-to midfield partnership of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Both have lost more than a yard of pace and following Kobbie Mainoo’s emergence, the Dane’s chances have dried up even further. Eriksen has started just 14 times this season as compared to 37 last term.

Eriksen’s sale on the cards

The former Tottenham Hotspur star made his dissatisfaction known to the former Ajax coach and the midfielder has been linked with an exit with clubs in England, Turkey and Saudi Arabia waiting to strike.

INEOS are in the process of revamping the squad as they look to improve the team’s fortunes but before they can start their recruitment spree, the club will need to sell first as they grapple with PSR concerns after years of mismanagement under the Glazers.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has spoken of the need to recruit young as the new regime looks to reduce the overall age of the team and experienced stars like Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial have already announced their departure while his former Real Madrid teammate could follow suit.

Football Insider have claimed that the 20-time English league champions are ready to move Eriksen on as well this summer window should they receive a small offer.

The 32-year-old had arrived as a free agent in the summer of 2022 and his contract is valid till next year and that means any sale would constitute a profit.

“Christian Eriksen is likely to leave Man United this summer as the club’s mass exodus plans accelerate. Man United’s finances are tight due to concerns over profit and sustainability rules, so the club need to sell before they can buy.

A small fee will be enough

“United brought Eriksen to Old Trafford on a free transfer in 2022 after a short-term spell with Brentford, with the Denmark midfielder going on to make 49 Premier League appearances.

“As a result of his arrival on a free, United will be guaranteed to make a profit from any fee received for his sale this summer. With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, Eriksen has just one year left on his deal, and the club will look to cash in early to avoid losing him for free. The club will accept a relatively small offer for the player.”

Eriksen’s current market value as per Transfermarkt stands at €10 million and considering the passing ability he still has, INEOS should try and match that at the minimum.

The midfield magician can still do a job but the pace of the game of the English game can overwhelm him at times. A slower league would suit his talents perfectly.
