Manchester United’s injury issues only slightly eased as their season continued to slump towards a disappointing conclusion.

Erik ten Hag was without both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford for the defeat to Arsenal despite the players returning to training at the end of last week.

A fresh concern also emerged when Amad Diallo was forced off with a suspected knee issue, making him a doubt to face Newcastle.

It wasn’t all bad news though, Willy Kambwala made his comeback after a short lay-off and Scott McTominay came through the 90 minutes. United nonetheless remain without the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire.

Bruno Fernandes

There were hopes that Fernandes would be ready to face Arsenal having trained last week, but he ultimately sat out his second game in a row.

“Bruno trained for two days but wasn't far enough [along] to recover from his injury and make the team,” Ten Hag confirmed pre-game.

United are therefore hopeful that he will return against Newcastle but that is still to be confirmed.

Amad Diallo

Ivorian winger Amad impressed on Sunday before coming off with a knee issue, picked up in a challenge from Thomas Partey during the first 45 minutes.

However, he assured fans with a post-game social media post that he will be “fine” - although the club are yet to confirm his status for the Newcastle match.

“The knee to knee in the first half bothered me in the second half,” he wrote. “Otherwise I'm fine.”

Marcus Rashford

Ten Hag confirmed ahead of the Arsenal game that Rashford was ruled out of the match on Saturday.

The decision was made despite his return to training, with the club appearing to not have enough confidence in his recovery that he wouldn’t aggravate his injury against the Gunners.

It is expected he will be in the mix to face Newcastle.

Lisandro Martinez

United welcomed Martinez back to training last week but he did not play against Arsenal.

According to Ten Hag, the Argentine was “desperate” and asked his manager for an early recall to the line-up - but doctor’s orders prevented him from playing.

“Yesterday Licha came to me and he wanted to play on Sunday against Arsenal,” said the United boss on Friday. “But he is not ready yet. He needs a little bit more time to go through the process, but he is so desperate.”

Harry Maguire

A muscle injury sustained earlier in the month has left Maguire’s season hanging by a thread.

Reports suggest his best bet is a return in the FA Cup final, which could also threaten his participation at Euro 2024.

Luke Shaw

Like Maguire, Shaw is hoping to make an appearance at Wembley to ensure his campaign is not yet over.

Ten Hag stated last week that a small “setback” had ended the left-back’s hopes of playing again before the league finishes.

Mason Mount

Mount is looking at a return from a “very unlucky”, but as yet unspecified, injury which he picked up last week.

Ten Hag told MUTV: “It's a minor issue. So he's definitely not out for the season. I think a couple of days, then he'll return. Maybe Newcastle is too short but I think he can be available for Brighton.”

Raphael Varane

A muscle injury has kept Varane on the sidelines since the trip to Chelsea over a month ago.

Yet to return to training, he is another earmarked as aiming for the FA Cup final.

Anthony Martial

Martial underwent surgery on a groin issue in January.

With his contract expiring in the summer, many expect he has played his final game for United but there is still a chance he can make a comeback before the season ends.

Potential return date: May 2024

Victor Lindelof

Swedish defender Lindelof was ruled out with a muscle injury in early April.

Expected to miss a month, he is in a race to play again before the campaign finishes.

Potential return date: Saturday May 25, vs Man City

Tyrell Malacia

United do not expect to see Malacia out on the pitch this season.

Having picked up a serious knee injury last summer, he has spent the whole year on the sidelines with multiple setbacks making it one to forget.
