Patrick Dorgu’s nightmare home Premier League debut was compounded further with a first-half red card

Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu will serve a domestic suspension after being sent-off in the 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.

The Denmark international was partially at fault for Ipswich’s opener as early as the fourth minute following a disastrous mix up with Andre Onana that gifted Jaden Philogene a goal.

Though his blushes were spared by teammate Harry Maguire, in particular, as the central defender headed home a Bruno Fernandes corner in the second half as 10-man United dug deep to claim a much-needed victory at Old Trafford.

As Dorgu was shown a straight red card for his challenge on Hutchinson, he will serve a three-match ban.

Furthermore, because red card suspensions are carried over to the domestic cup competitions, he will miss the FA Cup tie with Fulham this weekend and the two Premier League matches against Arsenal and Leicester City next month.

However, Dorgu will be available for selection for the two Europa League round-of-16 ties against Real Sociedad and Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim has already earmarked a recall for his January signing.

Speaking to reporters after the game, he said: "It's important, we have players out so we have to keep our players available. We have to make some rotation but we have to fight for every game. It's not a difference in the FA Cup or Europa League.

"He [Dorgu] is going to be ready to play. He will play in the Europa League, for sure, as we have to make rotation. It's the life of a player, you make a mistake but you have to go again and play the next game."
