Manchester United defender Simpson joins Southampton on loan | OneFootball

Manchester United defender Jess Simpson has joined Barclays WSL2 club Southampton on a season-long loan deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints this afternoon.

The 20-year-old defender is a product of the Manchester United academy system and she has briefly featured for the first team in recent years. The majority of Simpson’s senior playing experience has been build whilst out on loan. The player has enjoyed two loan spells with Bristol City, either side of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury which she sustained early in the 2023/2024 season.

On the international stage, Simpson has represented England at various youth levels up to and including Under-23 level.

After completing her loan move to Southampton, Simpson said “I just want to be the best I can, help the team as much as I can and strive for the best.

“I’ve met a couple of the girls already and just seeing the togetherness in the team is something special, hopefully we can achieve so much together and I’m excited for what the season holds.”

Simpson is Southampton’s sixth signing of what is proving to be a very busy transfer window for the club.
