The agent of Juventus and Italy international Andrea Cambiaso has now confirmed that Manchester City’s interest in the player can be considered over for this year.

Despite having monitored Cambiaso closely over the past year, City have now turned their attention elsewhere in the full-back department as the Premier League giants finalised a move for Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the window.

The signing of the Algeria international left-back is viewed internally as a key solution for Pep Guardiola’s evolving needs on the left side of defence, while that deal – coupled with Juventus’ own reluctance to entertain negotiations – has now seen the Cambiaso chapter close.

The 25-year-old defender had long been admired by Pep Guardiola for his versatility, technical balance, and understanding of positional play. But Manchester City’s priorities have shifted in recent months, particularly following the second-half of last season and the need to bolster midfield further and replace Kevin De Bruyne’s creative output.

Juventus’ firm stance has also played a part, with Igor Tudor’s side rebuilding with a strong domestic core, and Cambiaso is viewed as one of the club’s most important long-term pieces, reinforced by speculation surrounding a possible valuation of around €70 million.

Speaking during a new conversation with Sky Sport Italia, as translated and relayed by Football Italia, Giovanni Bia – the agent of Andrea Cambiaso – has confirmed the player’s firm desire to continue at Juventus, despite maintained admiration from Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.

“Guardiola still likes him, but Manchester City have already signed another full-back,” Bia revealed, in reference to the Etihad Stadium’s signing of Rayan Ait-Nouri for the left-back position earlier this summer.

“Besides, at that moment, both Juventus and Andrea were not at all disappointed that it didn’t go any further,” Giovanni Bia continued. “Andrea is happy at Juve, he had that ankle problem [earlier in the year] and wasn’t in a great moment, so Juventus would’ve only sold him when faced with an offer they really couldn’t refuse.

“He hopes to win something big at Juve and is convinced the club will return to its former glory. Playing as a regular for Italy and Juve at age 25 is truly all he could ask for right now.”

While the door may be closed for now, City’s admiration for Cambiaso is unlikely to completely disappear. The club are known to retain long-term tracking files on players they admire, and should circumstances change, a renewed attempt in 2026 or beyond cannot be ruled out.

As it stands, Manchester City have now shifted their focus to trimming down their playing squad after four new signings this summer, with the futures of the likes of Kalvin Phillips, James McAtee, Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan, and Ederson likely to be outlined in the coming weeks.

The full-back rebuild may only remain half complete off the back of Rayan Ait-Nouri’s arrival, with Kyle Walker’s exit to Burnley likely to leave Guardiola with a choice between Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes, complimented by Manuel Akanji and Abdukodir Khusanov at right-back.
