Manchester City could seal an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title with a win on Sunday, as they take on West Ham United in the final league game of the 2023/24 season.

In a season filled with highs and lows, Manchester City could become the first side to lift the Premier League trophy for the fourth time running, as they finish their Premier League campaign at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Following on from their victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday, City are two points clear of second place Arsenal, who welcome Everton to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

However, all of the focus remains on the current Champions, with the destiny in their own hands as the Blues continue to break records in England, something which has been recognised heading into the big game this weekend.

Phil Foden has had a stellar season, stealing the headlines in the biggest games and spearheading the Sky Blues to success, as he was rewarded with being named the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Season on Friday.

The individual talent in the Manchester City squad speaks for itself, but the togetherness of the players is what has lead to this moment, with the Cityzens once again on the brink of success with two games to go.

Sunday’s clash with West Ham isn’t the final game of the season for City, with the small matter of a Manchester derby FA Cup Final following on next weekend, but full attention will be drawn to this one, with City closing in on another historic season.

If Pep Guardiola didn’t know what “squeaky bum time” was last week, he is certainly going to find out on Sunday, and here is everything you need to know about the last hurdle in front of Manchester City’s latest Premier League title pursuit.

Match Details

Manchester City take on West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 19th May, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 GMT.

Team News

Kevin De Bruyne has assured fans he feels “fine” after suffering a heavy knock on Tuesday. The Belgian has trained with the rest of the squad as normal during the week.

Ederson however has been ruled out of the final two games of the season after suffering a fractured eye socket courtesy of a Cristian Romero challenge during the week.

For West Ham, Kalvin Phillips is ineligible due to the loan agreement between the two clubs, but the Englishman suffered a hamstring injury and is out regardless.

Konstantinos Mavropanos and Nayef Aguerd look set to miss the clash with injuries, as West Ham have a couple of injuries at the back.

Head to Head

Manchester City won the reverse fixture at the London Stadium 1-3 after West Ham took the lead through James Ward-Prowse; with Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland completing the comeback in the capital.

West Ham’s last victory at the Etihad Stadium came in 2015 with a 1-2 victory for the Hammers, while a certain Kevin De Bruyne scored his first City goal in that game.

The last time these two sides met at the Etihad Stadium saw Erling Haaland score a record-breaking goal, giving him the most goals in a single league campaign in a 3-0 win for City in May 2023.

Statistics

  1. Across the last five games at the Etihad Stadium when these two sides have met, City have a 13-4 aggregate scoreline.
  1. City have scored more than one goal in each of the last four times West Ham have visited the Etihad Stadium, with a 1-0 victory in February 2019 the last time the blues failed to score at least twice.
  1. Pep Guardiola has faced David Moyes 15 times in his managerial career, winning 11, drawing three of them and losing just once.
