Manchester City will take on Brentford later today in Premier League action at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to maintain their winning start to new Premier League campaign against Thomas Frank’s side. City knows all too well the danger posed by the Bees, especially on the counter. An enthralling encounter awaits as the Premier League returns after the international break.
On the injury front, there appear to be only two Manchester City players unavailable for selection today. Oscar Bobb is out with a fractured leg. Nathan Ake has joined him on City’s injury list. Pep Guardiola confirmed yesterday that the Dutch international is likely out for an extended period. The defender suffered what looked to be a hamstring injury during Holland’s 2-all draw with Germany earlier this week.
Pep Guardiola did have positive news on the availability of Phil Foden and Rodri for today’s match. He told the media that the pair had trained well and should be available for today’s match. Whether or not they start the game will be known when the starting lineups are announced.
A decision is yet to be made on Erling Haaland’s availability for today’s match. City’s star striker is dealing with the passing of a dear family friend. Pep Guardiola told the media that a decision is yet to be made on whether or not Haaland will feature at the Etihad Stadium.
Ederson- There appears to be no reason for Ederson not to start today. Unless he is suffering from fatigue after travelling with the Brazil squad he should start today’s match.
Kyle Walker- I believe Kyle Walker will start today and Rico Lewis will start against Inter Milan. Walker’s pace may be needed to quell the threat of Brentford on the break.
Ruben Dias- Based on his start to this season he should start again today. Dias looks back to his best and will be hoping to continue that form today.
Manuel Akanji- The Swiss international is another City player who has started the season strongly. His defensive partnership with Ruben Dias is developing by the week.
Josko Gvardiol- An automatic selection at left-back especially with Ake out injured.
Mateo Kovacic- I believe Kovacic will start with Rodri saved for the Inter Milan clash. Kovacic deserves to start based on his form to begin the new campaign.
Ilkay Gundogan- Today could be the day that Gundogan makes his first start since returning to the club. He has had two weeks off and should be ready to start the game.
Matheus Nunes- After impressing against West Ham Nunes could start today’s match as Pep Guardiola rotates his lineup.
Savinho- The Brazilian international missed City’s last match against West Ham. Indications are he is fit and available for today’s match.
Jack Grealish- Grealish impressed for England over the international break. That form should see him start today against Brentford.
Erling Haaland- It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Haaland start today’s match. If he does start he will be determined to put in a performance after a tough past few days.
