The entourage of those around Rayan Ait-Nouri were reportedly left with ‘tears in their eyes’ this week as a Manchester City transfer edged closer this weekend.
The Algerian international is expected to be one of three major signings added into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, joining a new central midfielder and an advanced playmaker in the process.
Netherlands star Tijjani Reijnders of AC Milan is believed to have undergone a medical at Manchester City on Sunday morning, after the player himself confirmed that he “couldn’t wait any longer” to get his signing over the line.
As for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, matters are believed to be advancing but with slightly more complications over a price tag to be agreed with the French side, although the 21-year-old is adamant on making the move.
But the first player to finalise his various processes in Manchester was Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, who missed Algeria’s opening international contest of the ongoing break to travel to the North-West of England and complete his medical.
That came after an agreement was struck between the two clubs last week, with the transfer expected to reach as high as around £36.3 million when factoring in all potential add-ons and bonuses into the agreement.
According to the information of French newspaper L’Equipe, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, some members of the entourage around Rayan Ait-Nouri were left with ‘tears in their eyes’ upon receiving news of an agreement over a Manchester City transfer.
Follow-up reporting from transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano on Saturday has since confirmed that the Algeria international has successfully completed his Manchester City medical, with a five-year contract to be signed on Sunday.
Following the completion of all remaining formalities at Manchester City over the course of the weekend, Ait-Nouri has left the region once again and travelled directly to Stockholm in Sweden, where he has linked-up with his Algeria teammates.
Algeria take on Sweden in an international friendly to wrap up the June international break, while a number of Manchester City’s players are due to return to training on Monday ahead of travelling to the United States later this week.
Pep Guardiola and his players will begin their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a group stage clash against Moroccan outfit Wydad AC, before facing contests against the United Arab Emirates’ Al Ain and Italy’s Juventus.
