Ederson is in line to receive a new contract proposal to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium after months of speculation over his future at the club, as per a new report.

The 31-year-old was one of the favourites in Pep Guardiola’s squad to be part of a summer exodus orchestrated by newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana that has already seen Kevin De Bruyne and Scott Carson leave the club.

Since joining Manchester City for £35 million from Benfica in 2017, Ederson has won six Premier League titles under Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, forming the backbone for the Catalan’s style of playing out from the back.

Having understood to be tempted by a new chapter amid interest from Saudi Arabia, Ederson was believed to have sought a transfer to the Saudi Pro League last summer, which failed to materialise owing to Manchester City’s £50 million valuation of the goalkeeper.

After eight seasons in England, Ederson is entering the final 12 months of his current deal and there have remained question marks over what the remainder of the transfer window could mean for the Brazil international.

Guardiola wants to keep hold of Ederson and has publicly said that he expects the Brazilian – and Stefan Ortega Moreno – to stay put into the new season as the pair enter the last year of their contracts.

Whilst Ortega Moreno has refused to rule out a possible departure despite Guardiola’s plea, Ederson has confirmed this week that he will be staying at Manchester City next season and that his focus remains on challenging for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.

Manchester City have already overhauled their goalkeeping department since the start of the transfer window, signing Marcus Bettinelli as a replacement for the departed Carson, though there does hang a cloud of uncertainty over what the next weeks and months could mean for Ortega Moreno.

TBR Football are reporting that Manchester City are now open to extending Ederson’s contract beyond 2026 after receiving clarity over the shotstopper’s short-term future and putting all talk of a possible summer exit to bed.

It has been reported that Ederson had agreed personal terms with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, which would have made him the best-paid goalkeeper in world football, but Guardiola prevented a move from materialising by imploring one of his best-ever signings at the Etihad Stadium to stay put.

City now want to open contract talks – after reportedly holding initial discussions with Ederson’s representatives – and tie down the Brazilian to a long-term deal as they look to launch a new era under Guardiola following their strong start to the transfer window.

The Blues have added Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Bettinelli to their ranks already and remain in the pursuit of a new right-back to replace Kyle Walker, who is himself entering the last year of his contract and has no future at the Etihad Stadium.
