A permanent sale from Manchester City’s right-back ranks could take place this summer amid growing interest in the player’s services, according to new reports.

That concerns the future of Issa Kaboré, whose time at City appears to be nearing its end after several years of development and multiple loan spells across Europe, without making a senior appearance for Pep Guardiola.

Nevertheless, Kabore has built a strong reputation elsewhere, particularly in France and Germany, where his physical attributes and attacking instincts from deep have caught the eye of clubs across top divisions.

Kaboré first joined the Etihad club in 2020 from Belgian side KV Mechelen but remained on loan in the Belgian Pro League for the 2020/21 campaign. Since then, his career has taken him on a continental journey, with City utilising the City Football Group network and trusted partners to provide regular top-level minutes.

A loan to Troyes – one of the group’s affiliated clubs – came first, followed by an encouraging spell with Marseille in Ligue 1, where he scored his first league goal in October 2022. Last season marked a more turbulent phase for the defender.

Kaboré started the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Benfica but struggled for minutes in Lisbon, prompting a January switch to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, where he gained more valuable experience during the second half of the season.

Despite his potential and athletic profile, alongside the club’s need for a traditional right-back, it has become increasingly clear that a long-term future at the Etihad Stadium is unlikely for Issa Kabore, with City now open to cashing in permanently.

According to the information of journalist Ben Jacobs, the Manchester City right-back is now attracting interest from several clubs across Europe, with all of Galatasaray, Rennes and Valencia making enquires.

It is revealed that the 24-year-old defender could be sold by Manchester City this summer for a transfer fee under £10 million.

A departure for Kaboré would not come as a surprise, with the club currently assessing other long-term right-back options. With Matheus Nunes having been deployed in a makeshift full-back role in recent months and the club weighing up whether to recruit a natural alternative, opportunities for Kaboré to break through have remained slim.

From the player’s side, a permanent move could be a critical career moment. Kaboré is now approaching the peak years of his career, and consistent game time in a settled environment is likely to be a top priority.

His technical ability, high engine, and experience in top-flight football across several major leagues make him an appealing option – particularly for clubs like Galatasaray and Rennes, who are eyeing continental qualification once more and regular domestic competition. Valencia, meanwhile, continue to rebuild amid financial constraints, and a value deal for Kaboré could represent shrewd business.

A sale for the aforementioned valuation would represent a modest financial return for Manchester City, who signed the player for a relatively low fee in 2020. However, a deal could also include sell-on clauses or performance-related bonuses, which the City Football Group often insert into permanent exits from their wider player network.
