Reports from both England and Germany have significantly played down Manchester City’s hunt for Eintracht Frankfurt forward, Omar Marmoush.

The Premier League champions are believed to be in the market for a number of new recruits across the course of the ongoing winter window, while 2025 is understood to be targeted as a year for an overhaul of Pep Guardiola’s playing squad.

As part of that supposed overhaul, up to three new signings are being eyed up this month in the hope that new arrivals can transform the hopes of an underperforming Manchester City side this season.

The reigning top-flight champions managed to record back-to-back wins for the first time in over 70 days, with a 0-2 away victory over Leicester City to close out 2024 followed up by a 4-1 home win over West Ham in their first outing of 2025.

Several reports have indicated that City’s search for new talents would likely include a central defender, defensive midfielder, and potentially a new forward should their preferred options appear doable in terms of negotiations with their current clubs.

But according to journalists Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook, while Manchester City hold an interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, a deal this month is ‘not yet advanced’ and the club have not made an approach to the player’s Bundesliga employers as of now.

There are also reportedly doubts over whether Eintracht Frankfurt would consider a mid-season sale amid their chase for UEFA Champions League football for next season, although Marmoush is keen on a Premier League move despite not having a release clause.

Additional reporting from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has also stated that there are currently no negotiations taking place between the two clubs involved regarding a transfer of Omar Marmoush this month.

The Bundesliga side are also said to have not received any offers for the Egyptian international star, nor have they received any information from Omar Marmoush himself so far indicating that he wants to transfer in the coming days and weeks.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been quizzed on multiple occasions about the possibility of the club doing business in the January market, to which he most recently admitted, “I don’t know right now. It’s not easy, it will not be easy.”

He continued during a recent press conference, “Maybe we’ll sign, or maybe we don’t sign anyone. So I think the club has to be wise, don’t do it for doing it, just to add players.

“Of course for the situation that we have and from the perspective of the players that have had consistent injuries for many, many, many times, of course the club has to do it. But I don’t know if it will be possible.”

For now, City’s attentions will likely remain on the field as the FA Cup returns with a third round clash against Salford City on Saturday evening, while Txiki Begiristain has recently finalised a new loan deal for Issa Kabore to Werder Bremen for the remainder of the season.
