The City Football Academy are plotting a move for Everton goalkeeper Douglas Lukjanciks, but face Premier League competition for the teenager’s signature.

Manchester City have had notable goalkeeping success over the past decade, with Pep Guardiola having both Ederson and Stefan Ortega at his disposal within the first-team, and the likes of James Trafford and Gavin Bazunu enjoying success away from the Etihad Stadium after coming through the academy set-up.

Trafford, who could join Newcastle United this summer, moved to Burnley in a £19 million deal last July, after impressing Vincent Kompany and Turf Moor bosses during a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers.

The City Football Academy also completed the major signing of Spike Brits last year, acquiring the signature of the 17-year-old England shot-stopper from AFC Wimbledon, with the player going on to make eight Under-18 Premier League appearances during the recent campaign.

The CFA have also recently completed a deal to sign 14-year-old American prodigy Cavan Sullivan in a record-breaking deal for the MLS, and signed 18-year-old Claudio Echeverri from River Plate in January.

Manchester City are preparing to add to their academy ranks again this summer, with CFA bosses looking to win the race to sign Everton goalkeeper Douglas Lukjanciks, amid continued financial woes at Goodison Park.

The 16-year-old has featured twice for England’s Under-17s and has played in Everton’s Under-18s during the 2023/24 season, with the Toffees already considering the teenager as a potential future replacement for Jordan Pickford on Merseyside.

Everton face a major battle to keep hold of Lukjanciks however, with Manchester City ‘keen’ on signing the goalkeeper this summer, according to Football Transfers.

Aston Villa are also reportedly interested in signing the 16-year-old, meanwhile Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham and Marseille have previously been credited with interest.

The sale of an academy product could help boost Everton’s financial outlook, with the potential for Manchester City to even include a player within the deal, according to The Sun.

Manchester City could also be forced into signing a first-team goalkeeper this summer, with growing speculation surrounding the future of Ederson at the Etihad Stadium, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
