There is a real possibility that Manchester City may be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. As revealed exclusively by Esteemed Kompany Ederson appears increasingly likely to leave Manchester City this summer. If that occurs then City will be in the market for a new keeper. One player who could be of interest to the world champions is James Trafford. He has impressed for Burnley this season and a race could be brewing to sign him this summer.

A new report from Just Arsenal indicates that Arsenal are amongst a host of clubs monitoring James Trafford ahead of a potential summer move for the impressive young keeper. Furthermore, Just Arsenal reports Newcastle United and Manchester United also have an interest in signing Trafford. It is also included in the Just Arsenal report that Manchester City holds a buy-back clause on Trafford that may be their trump card in any race to sign the England youth international.

It isn’t a surprise to see a host of clubs interested in signing James Trafford. Trafford has been outstanding for Burnley this season and he looks to be fulfilling the potential he has shown during his young career. The Burnley shot-stopper is one of the best young English keepers in the game and he does appear to be destined to one day play at a bigger club than Burnley. But if Manchester City are forced to look for a new keeper in the summer Trafford could be the player they look to potentially replace Ederson.

If Manchester City decide James Trafford is the keeper they want they can end the race to sign him relatively quickly.

A move for James Trafford is a relatively simple move for Manchester City to complete. With the buy-back clause City holds, they can sign the young keeper with ease. That would scupper the chances of Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle United or any other interested club in signing him. But that does depend on if Manchester City decide that Trafford is the keeper they want to replace Ederson. If Ederson does depart the club Pep Guardiola’s side will need another keeper. That’s when we may see Manchester City enter the race to sign James Trafford. Whether or not City do need another keeper may not become clear until the summer.

But if a battle does eventuate and Manchester City decides Trafford is the keeper they want, it will be over relatively very quickly. City’s buy-back clause does loom over the race to sign Burnley’s impressive young keeper. What will decide the race is if Manchester City do want to bring James Trafford back to the club.
