Officials at the Etihad Stadium have decided to keep Savinho as part of their Manchester City squad for the now-ongoing season, according to new reports.
The news marks a dramatic twist in what had become one of the defining sagas of City’s ongoing transfer window, with Tottenham having been in talks to sign the Brazilian winger having tabled an opening proposal worth around €50 million.
In turn, the widespread belief was that Etihad officials had been assessing the possibility of targeting Real Madrid’s Rodrygo should Savinho depart. But City have now moved to close the door on both exits and arrivals, instead keeping faith in their current attacking options.
Savinho debut season at City during the last campaign had seemingly caught the eye of Spurs, who viewed the 21-year-old as a long-term solution on the right wing under the new leadership and tactical vision of Thomas Frank.
For City, his form underlined why they invested in him last summer and why Pep Guardiola has long admired his skill set. The Brazilian’s pace, dribbling ability, and eye for goal made him one of La Liga’s standout performers at Girona, and City are now eager to see that quality.
The shift in stance also comes at a time of wider reshuffling within Pep Guardiola’s squad. Jack Grealish has headed out on loan to Everton, James McAtee has finalised a move to Nottingham Forest, and the likes of Claudio Echeverri have been earmarked for temporary exits.
Now, according to the information of journalist Guillem Balague, Manchester City have decided to keep Savinho at the club this summer, ending any possibility of a move for Real Madrid and Brazil international forward, Rodrygo.
The report further highlights that Real Madrid officials did not receive an offer for the 24-year-old as the situation was entirely dependant on Savinho leaving the Etihad Stadium with interest from Tottenham.
Rodrygo had been valued at around €100 million by Real Madrid, while also reportedly identified as a “dream target” by Pep Guardiola and his staff. Without a major sale, City are unwilling to sanction such a costly move at this stage of the market.
Looking ahead, the decision could prove pivotal for Savinho’s career trajectory. A regular role in Pep Guardiola’s rotation would give him the chance to establish himself further as one of the Premier League’s brightest young wingers.
For Tottenham, the rejection will force a reassessment of their summer plans, with alternative winger targets now expected to come into focus.
As for Rodrygo, his immediate future remains at the Santiago Bernabéu, where he may now look to establish a key role under Xabi Alonso. While Manchester City’s interest has cooled for now, his long-term prospects could resurface in future windows, particularly if the Etihad hierarchy revisit their forward line next summer.
