Officials at Manchester City have maintained a ‘constant presence’ in the stands of Crystal Palace as they monitor the development and performances of Adam Wharton.
City have revamped their midfielder this summer with the additions of Tijjani Reijnders and rayan Cherki after the notable departure of Kevin De Bruyne, who was shown the door at the end of his contract to kick off a big summer of change at the Etihad Stadium.
Scott Carson and Kyle Walker have also left the Blues, who saw Jack Grealish secure a season-long loan move to Everton on Tuesday, with an option to make the deal permanent for £50 million next summer, when Grealish will have one year remaining on his Manchester City contract.
Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Sverre Nypan and James Trafford have all come in as Manchester City look to kick on from a disappointing 2024-25 season that saw them finish third in the Premier League with 71 points, exit the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage and lose the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace.
James McAtee is expected to complete a transfer to Nottingham Forest by the end of the week as negotiations continue over a fee for the Manchester City academy graduate, who captained the England U-21s to European Championship glory in June.
Kalvin Phillips remains surplus to requirements and the former Leeds United midfielder’s representatives are assessing his options after an unsuccessful year at Ipswich Town, who suffered relegation to the EFL Championship in their first year of their long-awaited return to the English top-flight last season.
Outgoings will dictate any further incomings at the Etihad Stadium, with Savinho of interest to Tottenham and Ederson understood to have reached an agreement over personal terms with Galatasaray as he enters the last year of his Manchester City contract.
Manchester City are interested in Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Real Madrid winger Rodrygo but a pursuit for either will only gather pace should Ederson and Savinho express a desire to leave respectively.
According to a new report from Mail Sport’s Simon Jones, while Real Madrid are continuing to follow Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, Manchester City are among the clubs to have held a ‘constant presence’ in the stands of Selhurst Park monitoring the 21-year-old’s progress.
It is further revealed that Tottenham had made an enquiry for the player prior to the FA Cup final in May and their interest remains, while Liverpool and Manchester United are also watching the player’s development.
City are well stocked in midfield ahead of this weekend’s Premier League opener away at Wolves but in the event of a departure in what remains of the summer transfer window, Wharton is seen as an ideal signing to bolster Guardiola’s midfield department.
Guardiola has held a long-standing interest in the England international, who has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best young midfielders and attracted interest from some of Europe’s best sides in this transfer window.
