It’s a cut-throat way of doing business, but they obviously felt there was no way to reach an agreement, even by taking the negotiation to the final year of his contract. He’s too valuable to leave for free, and they are doing what Milan should have done back in the day. Given his wages, there are only a few places he can go. Hopefully, the upcoming World Cup is a strong enough impetus for him to facilitate a transfer and not spend a year on the sidelines.
