Officials at the Etihad Stadium made a late attempt to hijack Bayern Munich’s imminent signing of Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise, according to a report.

The Frenchman has been at the centre of widespread attention throughout the ongoing summer transfer window, with a number of Premier League clubs among those most heavily linked to his services.

For many weeks and months, Chelsea were understood to have intensified their own efforts but ultimately pulled away from a deal due to financial concerns, while Manchester United also held an admiration for his talents.

But Erik ten Hag’s side now appear to have been joined in the pursuit by bitter rivals Manchester City, with a new report detailing the efforts from within the Etihad Stadium to disturb Bayern Munich’s ultimately successful attempts.

According to the information of Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Manchester City made a late move to hijack Bayern Munich’s now-imminent signing of Crystal Palace and France youth international Michael Olise.

It is explained that the Premier League champions made contact with Olise’s representatives to try to ‘force him into a late change of mind’. However, those attempts failed and the 22-year-old is now putting finishing touches on a move to the Allianz Arena.

The highly-rated forward is said to be undergoing a medical at Bayern Munich after officials overseeing a revamp of Vincent Kompany’s squad agreed to pay £50.7 million including add-ons to bring him to Germany, according to the report.

For now, Manchester City will have to look elsewhere for other options should they wish to pursue a fresh face in the wide roles, or trust one of their already-agreed reinforcements in the position despite his inexperience in the English game.

That concerns Brazil international Savio, who is understood to have agreed terms over a move to the Etihad Stadium, while Manchester City have finalised an agreement with fellow City Football Group side ESTAC Troyes.

The 20-year-old is fresh off the back of a hugely successful campaign with Girona in La Liga, aiding the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and is now expected to join City on their pre-season tour of the United States in order to be assessed by club coaching staff.
