Kyle Walker has given the go-ahead to join forces with David Moyes and sign for Everton from Manchester City this summer, as per a new report.

The 35-year-old England international is entering the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and has been told he is surplus to requirements as Manchester City look to acquire a new right-back.

Walker lost his place in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI in the fall of 2024 and after falling down the pecking order, the Sheffield-born defender sought exile in Italy and joined AC Milan on loan till the end of the season in January.

Since joining from Tottenham in 2017 for what was then a British-record fee for a defender, Walker has won six Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League title and a plethora of domestic silverware under Guardiola in Manchester.

However, Walker went on a run of miserable performances in the closing months of 2024 and having returned from Milan, the right-back has been told to find another club this summer as Manchester City eye a permanent sale to avoid the risk of losing him for free in 2026.

Newcastle’s Valentino Livramento and Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso are understood to be topping Manchester City’s wishlist as newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana eyes a new long-term right-back to replace Walker, who is past his prime.

Talks with Newcastle for Livramento are believed to have met an impasse as Manchester City consider if they want to reenter negotiations for the 22-year-old, who has three years remaining on his current at St. James’ Park and will prove to be a tough get.

Cambiaso was linked with a switch to the Etihad Stadium in January and is under contract in Turin till the end of the 2028-29 season, which means Manchester City’s hunt for a new right-back will not come cheap.

Sun Sport are reporting that Walker has agreed to join Everton on a one-year deal ahead of the new season. The right-back is very keen to retain a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and would be playing regularly in Merseyside.

Everton are reportedly in direct talks with Manchester City over the structure of a deal, which could still be a 12-month loan – though it is likely that City push for a permanent sale this summer to get Walker off their books as they look to trim the wage bill.

Fulham are also understood to have made an approach to bring Walker in but could not meet the defender’s wage expectations. A source close to Walker said, as quoted by Sun Sport: “Kyle (Walker) has been a wonderful servant to the club (Manchester City).

“He (Walker) has given everything and was key to the success. But after the disappointment of last season, the club has to rebuild.”
