The former Manchester United player has made the switch to Portman Road after departing Everton at the end of the previous campaign.

The 40-year-old has opted to continue his playing days by stepping down into the Championship, as he now prepares for the 23rd season of his professional career.

Kieran McKenna will be hoping that Young will be able to help Ipswich compete for promotion back to the Premier League in the upcoming campaign.

Young has confirmed on social media that he has completed his move to Ipswich, issuing a message to supporters about the deal.

He’s claimed he’s looking forward to getting started with the Suffolk outfit ahead of the new season getting underway in just over two weeks.

“23 not out,” wrote Young, via his personal Instagram account.

“Looking forward to this season.”

Former England national side teammate Maguire has replied in support of this move ahead of the new campaign.

“Love it,” wrote the defender.

Young has played for the likes of Watford, Aston Villa and Inter Milan, as well as his stints with Man United and Everton, winning a Premier League and Serie A title during this previous 22-year span.

Ipswich Town’s summer business

Young is the latest addition to the Ipswich squad this summer, with the club already completing permanent deals for Azor Matusiwa and David Button, as well as a loan move for Cedric Kipre.

The Tractor Boys have also seen the likes of Liam Delap, Axel Tuanzebe and Cameron Burgess depart, with the former signing for Chelsea.

Ipswich will get their Championship campaign underway on 8 August with a Friday night clash against Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s.

Young’s arrival will add depth and experience to Ipswich’s squad

Young played 32 times in the Premier League last season for Everton, so he can still compete to a decent level for someone who is now 40.

Going down to the Championship is perhaps a better reflection of where his ability is now, but he should still be a very useful player in McKenna’s side this season.

He has a vast amount of experience he can bring to the dressing room, and his versatility means he can be a very dependable player to have for rotation.

He is capable of playing as a full-back or winger, and can provide cover in a lot of positions, so this could prove a very smart signing to bolster the Ipswich squad.
