Manchester United are set for their first transfer window since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival — and that could mean a very different approach to purchases and sales at Old Trafford.

The Ineos owner has reshaped United’s football department since acquiring a 27.7% share of the club in February, with Omar Berrada joining from Manchester City as CEO and new technical director Jason Wilcox arriving from Southampton last month.

Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth is also in line to become sporting director, which should herald the start of a new transfer strategy after years of poor recruitment.

As the transfer market prepares to whirr into action, we consider who the Red Devils could sign this summer.

Jarrad Branthwaite

Signing players with significant potential and long-term sell on value was a key strategy during Ashworth’s time at Brighton, while he also spent big on youngsters Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento at Newcastle.

It therefore seems likely that United will follow suit once he is appointed, adding credibility to recent links with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.

The 21-year-old centre-back would help shore up a defence that conceded an eye-watering 17.55 shots per 90 minutes in 2023/24, but the Red Devils will need to part with a reported £60million to secure his services.

United would be paying for proven Premier League pedigree, though, with Branthwaite’s all-action defensive style putting him inside the division’s top 10 players for interceptions (50), clearances completed (157) and headed clearances (82).

Brian Brobbey

No player scored more than 10 top-flight goals for Manchester United this season, so adding a striker to their ranks will be a priority in the summer.

However, the club will not want to hinder the progress of current frontman Rasmus Hojlund, who still has plenty of room for development at just 21 years old.

That could see the Red Devils move for a player who is willing to be rotated with their No.11, making Brian Brobbey a viable option.

The 22-year-old Ajax star has been linked with both United and Arsenal, after racking up 18 goals and eight assists in the Eredivisie in 2023/24.

Brobbey is a clinical finisher with impressive core strength and pace to burn — no player in the Dutch top-flight managed more fast breaks than his 10 this season.

Michael Olise

Michael Olise ran Manchester United ragged in Crystal Palace’s 4-0 victory over the Red Devils earlier this month.

The 22-year-old struck twice in that match and showcased his broad skill set — scoring after a quick-footed jink past Casemiro before netting another from distance.

So it is no surprise to see United heavily linked with Olise, who scored 10 goals and registered six assists across the Premier League campaign.

With Antony struggling to make an impact on the right-flank, Palace’s £60milliion-rated star could be the perfect replacement.
